Peterhouse has two full time Speech and Language Therapists.
All children at Peterhouse receive an individual assessment of their current speech, language and communication skills. This may involve a variety of means, including; 1:1 formal assessment sessions with a Speech & Language Therapist, informal assessment tasks; observations in class/ group settings; discussions with school staff and parents/carers; liaison with other professionals.
Results of this assessment is summarised in a Speech and Language therapy report with suggested targets and further Speech & Language Therapy recommendations. Informal assessments of your child’s progress will be ongoing throughout the school year through 1:1 input, class observations and liaison with school staff. Students reports are updated each year and presented at annual reviews in order to share and agree suggested targets.
Our aim is to ensure that your child achieves their communicative potential. In order to do this, Speech and Language Therapy targets are continually monitored and updated and are included in your child’s EHCP. Speech & Language Therapists work closely with school staff to discuss these EHCP targets and provide any advice and resources that are required to ensure that targets are worked on throughout the school day.
At Peterhouse we strongly feel that order to achieve success, it is of vital importance that the Speech & Language Therapist, Class Teacher, Teaching Assistants and Parents/Carers work together towards your child’s goals as one person cannot achieve success by working alone.
