Class Suzy and class Becca students access a person centred provision that aims to support our young people to develop the skills and qualities they need to successfully move forward towards their chosen next steps. We recognise the importance of supporting our young people to develop their communication and life skills to enable them to advocate for themselves as adults with autism and keep themselves safe in differing environments. Our students have the opportunity to work with staff to develop their independence skills in many different aspects of their lives, including within the community. Students also access opportunities to apply the skills they have worked upon in real world scenarios during their work experience placements in year 11 and year 13.
Students may access our semi-formal or formal pathways or a blend of both that is tailored to individuals. The majority of students in school join class Suzy or class Becca in year 10 and begin to work towards accredited courses which are available from pre-entry Level to Level 2 with some students pursuing GCSE’s where appropriate. The courses offered include:
- Pearson Edexcel Functional Skills in English and Maths.
- GCSE’s in English and Maths
- ASDAN Awards and Certificates in Personal and Social Development, Employability, Towards Independence, Personal Progress and short courses that can be tailored to personal interest
- Open Awards Level 1 and Level 2 Award in Science
- Duke of Edinburgh Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards
- BTEC Entry Level 3 in Vocational Skills
- BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Art and Design
- BTEC Level 1 and 2 in Digital Media
- BTEC Level 1 and 2 in IT
- Arts Award Bronze and Silver
As students approach the end of their journey at Peterhouse School they access person centred planning meetings with their families and relevant professionals in attendance including external agencies support to ensure thorough and appropriate transitions are organised for our pupils to support them onto their next placements. Our students move onto many different destinations following their time at school including mainstream and specialist colleges, apprenticeships, employment and bespoke placements linked to personal interests.
