Most of our young people have had a difficult start prior to coming to Peterhouse; many students have arrived as a result of multiple failed placements, or become school refusers (31% of our starters have not attended formal education for a lengthy period of time (typically around 2 years). Some have experienced past trauma, and many face multiple barriers to learning.
Our school’s mission is for every young person to leave us as a successful adult with a good Quality of Life. What this looks like can be very different for each young person! It may mean starting at College, or undertaking an apprenticeship. It may mean being able to go to the shop independently. It may mean having developed skills and interests that will support their quality of life in supported living. It will include being able to make and communicate choices, and understanding about keeping safe.
We keep in touch with our alumni and their families, and we are immensely proud to hear about their successes year on year. Students from our formal pathway move on to further education or training, often leading to future employment. Students from our semi-formal pathway generally move on to Social Care packages, where they lead fulfilling lives and contribute to their local communities. Flexible Education students move on to a mixture of destinations – some join the formal pathway at Peterhouse, others go on to Social Care or Employment.
We follow our leavers for four years (although many choose to stay in touch beyond this period) and seeing what they are all doing now truly shows the transformative impact of the personalised education at Peterhouse.

“It helped me to be more confident and to speak out more about my issues”
“Peterhouse helped me to gain confidence”
“It helped me with my anger. When I joined, I was a pain, but over time I learnt it’s not acceptable.”
Accredited Learning
The table below shows which accredited awards students have completed at Peterhouse during the last four years. There is a lot of variation because no two cohorts at Peterhouse are the same! Students will study for the accreditations that meet their ambitions and interests, rather than following a set programme.
