At Peterhouse School we aim to provide the highest quality of care and education for all our pupils, thereby giving them a strong foundation for their future learning. The Early Years curriculum and the opportunities and experiences that it provides, forms a firm basis on which all subsequent learning is built. We create a safe, happy, and flexible environment with motivating and enjoyable learning experiences that enable children to become confident and gain greater independence.

We adhere to the Statutory Framework of the EYFS and the four guiding principles that shape practices within Early Years settings.

  • Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self -assured.
  • Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships
  • Children learn and develop well in enabling environments with teaching and support from adults, who respond to their individual interests and needs and help them to build their learning over time. Children benefit from a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.
  • Children develop and learn in different rates

At Peterhouse School we support all children to become as independent as possible with their learning, with a focus on our 4 drivers for learning; Identity, Knowledge of the Wider World, Independent learning and creative thinking and Quality of Life. Reception age pupils will follow our bespoke Preparing for Adult Semi- Formal Curriculum which aims to provide a balanced curriculum that will enable each child to develop socially, emotionally, physically, creatively and intellectually to their full potential.

We aim to:

  • Provide a smooth transition to school which creates a strong start to their school life in which they can establish a solid foundation to enjoy school and help them to foster a love of learning
  • Provide a curriculum which is adapted to the children’s developmental needs and allows them to make progress relating to their different abilities.
  • Provide a happy, safe and stimulating program of learning for the children to experience as they begin their journey through school.
  • Work closely with our school Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists to address complex needs effectively.
  • Develop excellent relationships with parents and carers to build a strong partnership.
  • Provide a caring and inclusive learning environment which is tailored to the requirements of each individual following our 5 point star
  • Support children in building relationships with their teachers, peers as well as staff and pupils in the wider school environment.
  • Encourage independence and self-care skills in a friendly and nurturing atmosphere
